    Everything You Need to Return

    12:00 PM

All keys and access items are due by noon on your move-out date. Keys are returned through the permanent combination lockbox at your property. Steps and instructions are in the section below.

Please return all keys and access items that came with your home, including the two physical key copies.

    • House Keys — Both physical keys issued at move-in, plus any copies made during your lease. This includes keys for the front door, back door, and any additional exterior doors.
    • Garage Door Remotes — All garage openers and remote controls that came with the home.
    • Mailbox Key — Your mailbox key, if one was provided at move-in. Check your move-in paperwork if you are unsure whether one was issued.
    • Gate Cards and Key Fobs — All gate access cards, key fobs, and community entry devices provided during your tenancy.
    • Amenity Access Cards — Access cards for shared community spaces such as a pool, fitness center, or clubhouse.

    How to Return Your Keys

Before move-out day, make sure you know how and where to return your keys. This section explains how the lockbox works and what to do if you need help before your move-out date.

    Before move-out day

    Confirm your lockbox combination

Your keys go back into the permanent combination lockbox at your property, the same one you used to retrieve your keys on move-in day. It looks like the combination lockbox shown in the photo.

Try your combination before move-out day. If you cannot open the box, do not know the combination, or there is no lockbox at your property, call us at (833) 426-6739. We will help get it sorted before your move-out date.

    On move-out day

    1. Finish cleaning and remove all belongings from the home, garage, and yard.
    2. Gather both physical house keys, including any copies made during your residency.
    3. Place the following items on the kitchen counter: garage remotes, mailbox key, gate cards, fobs, and amenity access cards.
    4. Place all house keys into the lockbox. Once the keys are inside, your move-out is complete and you will not be able to re-enter the home.
    5. Please make sure to finalize your move-out and leave by 12:00 PM (noon) on your move-out date.

If Your Home Has a Smart Lock

Complete these three steps in addition to the steps above.

Leave the smart lock hub plugged in. The hub is a small device, usually located near the front door, that connects your lock to the internet. It is Maymont's equipment and must stay at the property.

Check that the smart lock has working batteries before your move-out date. If they are running low, go ahead and swap them out before you leave.

Your smart lock access code will be deactivated by Maymont after move-out. No action is needed on your part.

What Happens After You Return Your Keys

Returning your keys completes your move-out. Here is what happens next.

Next Step — Move-Out Inspection — We compare the home's current condition to your move-in inspection report. This typically happens within a few business days of your move-out date.

If Applicable — Charges and Credits — If there are any charges for damages or items beyond normal wear and tear, they will be itemized in your statement. Normal wear and tear is not charged.

Final Step — Deposit Statement Sent — Your deposit statement is prepared and sent within the timeline required by your state. See the Security Deposit Refund Guide for specifics on your timeline and what to expect.

For a full breakdown of the deposit statement timeline, what counts as normal wear and tear, and how deductions are calculated, see the Maymont Homes Security Deposit Refund Guide.
